Boys & Girls Club Healthy Lifestyles: Healthy Habits
 
 
 
The Healthy Lifestyles: Healthy Habits VISTA will work with Club staff and community partners to educate Club members on the benefits and advantages of healthy food choices and creating healthy habits. He/She will help to develop a sustainable curriculum based on health and nutrition needs of Club members. He/She will work with the organization's current partners, in addition to seeking out new ones, in order to enhance the organization's gardening and sustainability programs. He/She will also utilize the current Boys & Girls Clubs programming to aid in the construction of long term health goals for all Club members.

Member Duties : This VISTA member will work to increase awareness of the need for the establishment of healthy eating habits and choices, as well as integrate healthy eating with sports, fitness and recreation. Educating young people about food choices will be critical as well. They will work with Unit Directors, Program Coordinators, and team members to establish the Club’s Healthy Lifestyles programming. With lead volunteers they will work with others in the community to educate youth between the ages of 7-12 on the benefits of growing one’s own food. They will the scope of this program. They will also work with Sports, Fitness, and Recreation program staff to also create an organization program schedule that coincides with our Programming strategic plan. This VISTA member will also help coordinate 3rd party programs. The VISTA member will also take on the task of enhancing the Club’s current green living program. They will work with volunteers and staff to promote recycling, composting, etc.
