The Washington State Employment Security Department’s mission is to connect employers and job seekers; supporting transitions to new jobs and empowering careers. The AmeriCorps position supports the mission by improving the workplace readiness of job seekers, enabling them to compete in today’s workforce by teaching computer and technology skills. Candidates must be skilled in communication and group facilitation, be able to adapt to different learning styles and be qualified to facilitate introductory and intermediate level computer classes. It’s a great service opportunity for someone who enjoys people, is self-directed and works well in a team environment. This position is contingent on funding. Applications will be reviewed in the order in which they are received with interviews taking place until placement is filled.

Member Duties : This service opportunity will have you sharing your computer knowledge to assist job seekers visiting the WorkSource who require additional computer support. Interpersonal skills and ability to relate and communicate with diverse groups of individuals are critical. If you enjoy teaching others and have a strong technology background this will be a good match for you. You will provide individual and class room facilitation in introductory and intermediate level computer literacy and provide job search skill training and additional skill development services in a resource center setting. You will track and report performance outcomes related to increased job readiness of job seekers, and be part of a dedicated team whose goal is to help job seekers to become self-sufficient through employment. Additionally, you will participate in customer outreach activities, like career fairs, to increase traffic in the WorkSource Office and reach underserved populations such as military souses.
