Career Services for Veterans

Career Services for Veterans program provides training, coaching and employer outreach services that help veterans overcome barriers to employment. "Veterans" can mean men and women who served on active military duty in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force or Coast Guard, members of the the National Guard or Reserves or active duty troops. We also provide similar services to the spouses/partners of deployed troops. The services we provide include: 1. Job coaching for veterans. AmeriCorps members will be trained to provide career assessment, resume writing, interviewing, job search and other employment-related assistance to veterans. This assistance will be provided in one-on-one sessions and in workshops where members can expect to have 15-20 veterans in attendance. 2. Job development. AmeriCorps members will be trained how to reach out to businesses and other organizations and teach them what it means to be veteran-friendly. This may include presentations to business groups such as chambers of commerce, or one-on-one job development to match job openings with specific veterans. Members also will help develop career fairs and work with media outlets to promote the fairs. Most members will serve as job coaches or job developers, but we also have a need for members with journalism/writing, social media and mySQL/PHP skills.
