The City of Renton’s Emergency Management
 
 
 
The City of Renton’s Emergency Management program serves the residents and businesses in the City of Renton. It is administered by the Renton Fire & Emergency Services Department (RF&ES). In addition to emergency management services, RF&ES provides fire suppression, fire prevention, fire inspection, and fire investigation, within the City of Renton. The emergency management program conducts emergency planning and also coordinates disaster response, and recovery. With assistance from the AmeriCorps member the Emergency Management program specifically addresses the education and training needs of the public related to disaster preparedness and the recruitment, training and engagement of volunteers.

Member Duties : The selected individual will receive training to support existing volunteer and outreach programs such as Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and Teen CERT training. The individual will assess the disaster preparedness needs of the community and effect positive change in the preparedness level of the community. The member will develop new programs including the creation of a culturally-specific speaker’s bureau to disseminate disaster preparedness information more widely within Renton’s diverse community. The position requires strong organization and public speaking skills. There will be a high degree of interaction with members of the public to develop strategies for increasing disaster preparedness in the community and reaching out to people. Training will be provided to familiarize the volunteer with emergency management standards and practices.
