Artist in Service - Creative Schools
 
 
 
Creative Schools AmeriCorps Members will work to support and develop the arts learning taking place in schools participating in the Creative Schools Initiative. This initiative aims to foster long-term positive impact on student learning and school culture by providing high quality integrated arts experiences in schools. Members will assist with arts learning in the classroom during the school day and plan and teach art classes after school. Additionally, they will lead arts based service learning projects and create opportunities for youth leadership in the arts. Each member will be matched with a middle school site for their entire term where they will dedicate 32 hours per week, with an additional 8 hours per week spent in professional development, service and planning off site.

Member Duties : Members will: 1) support arts instruction in the school day; 2) develop and teach after school classes based in his or her art form; 3) contribute to the development of an arts rich school environment by planning performances, exhibits and arts based service opportunities; and 4) manage documentation of the initiative for his or her site. Members must: 1) serve from September 16, 2012 to July 31, 2013; 2) have a college degree; 3) be at least 18 years of age; 4) be a practicing artist with proficiency in one or more art forms; and 5) have experience working with youth in a school or after-school environment.
