MYOI: Developing Community Partners

This program will partner with the faith based community to help youth develop new skill in gardening. In this area their are a number of youth who were foster youth in past who have been wanting to share their stories and help those youth that are just exiting the system. The AmeriCorps Vista will help to identify those in the community that would like to bring their ideals and skills to those youth. The key to connecting the youth with mentors that have a clear understanding of the needs and how to help youth become stable in the community they grew up in is very important and through working together to learn how to save money gardnering in their own community garden would be a great way to help to rebuild a sense of pride. Many of the youth who exit care or were homeless often gravitate to the low income community as the rent is affordable. One of the Vista projects we have is to help youth with housing this would provide the second component to helping youth become successful.
