VYT-VT Affordable Housing VT Coalition to End Homelessness

The mission of the Vermont Coalition to End Homelessness (www.helpingtohousevt.org) is to end homelessness in VT through sharing information; developing resources; providing a forum for decision making; and promoting decent, safe, fair, affordable housing for all. VCEH achieves its mission by-- (1) creating a network of organizations, consumers, concerned citizens, and policy makers committed to ending homelessness; (2) fostering communication and developing collaborative partnerships; (3) ensuring that all Vermonters, particularly low-income persons, people with disabilities, and the homeless have safe, affordable housing; (4) encouraging resident participation and control; (5) facilitating the preservation of existing affordable housing; (6) protecting renters; (7) developing new, perpetually affordable housing; and (8) acting as a catalyst to explore and develop innovative means to preserve and increase Vermont’s affordable housing stock. The Vermont Affordable Housing Coalition (www.vtaffordablehousing.org) is a statewide membership organization dedicated to ensuring that all Vermonters have decent, safe, and affordable housing, particularly the state's low-income residents, elders, and people with disabilities. The 70-plus Coalition members represent most of Vermont’s nonprofit affordable housing developers, housing and homeless groups, public housing authorities, funders, and other organizations and individuals with an interest in affordable housing. Members of VAHC provide housing and services to tens of thousands of Vermonters. The Coalition pursues its mission through five major activities: (1) education of local, state, and federal officials; (2) outreach and coalition-building among broad interests in the field; (3) training and workshops for housing professionals; (4) community education and public relations; and (5) research on affordable housing issues and serving as an information clearing house.
