Community Engagement Coordinator- Bridgewater College

Northeast Neighborhood Revitalization Project: The Northeast Neighborhood of Harrisonburg, VA is a distinction made by residents living within the area north of West Market Street (US Route 33), east of Main Street (US Route 11), and south of Old Furnace Road. This area is characterized by high unemployment, high rates of non-violent crime, low rates of home ownership, low income, and socio-cultural divides. For these reasons, Bridgewater College (BC), located just south of Harrisonburg, is partnering with three non-profit agencies serving this area: Our Community Place (OCP), Roberta Webb Child Care Center (a United Way organization) and Precious Gems Academy formerly Ruby Slipper's Academy. VISTA members are requested to help the partners capitalize on existing community assets to achieve the following goals: 1. Build the capacity and sustainability of non-profit agencies through strengthened resource mobilization (financial and volunteers) and improved marketing strategies and to develop and strengthen Experiential Learning opportunities that directly benefits community members and engage students in meaningful educational experience through a total of 30% of all university courses containing a Experiential Learning component.
