CIA/Sidney School System Healthy Futures Project
The VISTA will work with the school system to create community awareness and increase stakeholder involvement in ensuring that the many homeless children in the Sidney School system and Richland County have access to nutritious food and build support and resources for a sustainable Farm to School Program or Breakfast Program. Additionally, the VISTA will assist in creating a method of ensuring community support through the development of a community group that will include representation from local businesses, general community, students, and local producers. The VISTA will utilize the community group to help assess the need and create a strategic plan to implement identified “Best Practice” programs. The goal of the project is to increase student participation in the school food program to ensure food access for the homeless and introduce the students, the faculty and the community at large to better nutrition. Finally, the VISTA will provide support for the program to be implemented regionally.
