Coaches for a Healthy California 2012-2013 Quarter-Time

*This is a quarter time position - we will not consider applicants from out-of-state unless they have another source of income and another part-time job to supplement this program.* Coachign Corps was founded on the twin truths that playing sports boosts kids' social, physical and academic growth, and that gross disparities exist in participation levels between poor and affluent kids and between girls and boys. One such reason for these disparities is a lack of access to trained coaches for low-income children and children of color. As a targeted response to that need, 30 quarter-time AmeriCorps Members will be part of Coaching Corps' Coaches for a Healthy California program and will work 12-15 hours a week to run organized sports programs for low-income communities across the state of California and simultaneously build deep and meaningful relationships with the youth they coach. Kids with trained coaches are more likely to increase their physical activity levels, stay involved with sports, improve their self-esteem and have fun. The AmeriCorps Coaches for a Healthy California program will provide a critical community service for almost 5,000 kids over three years through coaching that is supported by proven training curricula to get kids moving, and healthy in the broadest sense of the word.
