NRSMBC Community Support Corporation - Adult Education

This project will provide personnel to support the capacity-building plans of New Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church (NRSMBC) Community Support Corporation. This project will strengthen families and impact poverty in the City of Birmingham, Brown Springs, East Lake and Gate City neighborhoods in the following ways: 1. Promote excellence in education with emphasis on academic achievement and enrichment activities for school age children; and 2. Promote excellence in education with emphasis on parenting skills, adult education, and work force readiness. Excellence in education is achieved when: 1. Students in our public schools perform at their best; 2. Educational activities are reinforced through summer and spring camps and after school programs; 3. Scholarships are awarded that recognize significant educational achievements of high school and college students stressing community service; and 4. All adults are prepared with parenting skills and workforce readiness. Adult Education We will serve the parents and adults in this community. Our school principals indicate that many parents of the children, who are below reading level, cannot read. There is a need for the parents of these children to receive educational and parenting skills. Still, there are many who need job readiness and financial literacy training.

Member Duties : The Member tasks include: 1. Nurture partnerships with schools, parents and other community organizations; 2. Develop the infrastructure, partnerships and resources Necessary to establish a fully functioning and sustainable educational enrichment program in the community; and, 3. Assists with planning and implementing fundraising activities and other events.
