The cohort of 20 VISTAs operates as a team with members placed at Asheville City Schools (ACS), district administrative offices, after-school programs, local universities and youth focused non-profits. Asheville Learning Links helps meet the needs of students living in poverty through: volunteer recruitment and training, tutor/mentor placement, grant writing, relationship building, program development and evaluation, community and parent outreach, best practice research and by securing opportunities that create pathways for children living in poverty. Join our team to be empowered in your service by an established non-profit with a wide network and a connected faction of VISTAs, so that you can support students in need, and impact their lives!

Member Duties : 1. Increase the impact and accessibility of community volunteers and resources. Develop and improve systems that recruit, train, and place volunteers and community based supports to support the success of students living in poverty. 2. Promote and support the development of effective programs which provide educational opportunities that might otherwise be unavailable to low-income students and families. 3. Develop improved networks to support and engage parents- conduct need assessments, research best practices in parent education and outreach, and propose methods to reduce barriers to participation 4. Increase community engagement with schools for students living in poverty. 5. Increase and improve the participation of local colleges and universities so that they will impact public schools via volunteerism and program development.
