Summer Houston Food Bank
 
 
 
The Houston Food Bank is the largest sized Feeding America food bank and source of food for hunger relief in the nation. The Houston Food Bank encompasses a network of nearly 600 food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers and other agencies, feeding a total of 137,000 people each week, and provides more than 70 million pounds of food and prepared meals annually. The Summer Associate Program activities will include the working in the following departments: Outreach Services, Volunteer Production and Communications. The project activities of the associates assigned to the Outreach Services Department include monitoring meal sites to ensure they are adhering with the guidelines of the Department of Health and Human Services, and TDA. The goal of this project is to reach food insecure children in underserved communities lacking nutritious, quality, and affordable food. Additionally, this project will address the need of child hunger by ensuring at-risk children have access to hot meals on a daily bases. The project activities of the associate assigned to the Communications Department include raising awareness of Food Bank services, volunteer opportunities, events, and fundraising. The associate raise awareness via media support, photography, social media monitoring, and the gathering of client stories. Volunteer Production Associates will assist in providing exemplary customer service to Houston Food Bank volunteers to increase production output for clients. They will do so by providing administrative support and by working directly with volunteer staff in the Carousel and Repack Rooms on a daily basis. Other responsibilities include building food kits for our elderly, children and family clients, and maintaining professional business relations with both internal and external customers.

Member Duties : The project activities of the associates assigned to the Outreach Services Department include monitoring meal sites to ensure they are adhering with the guidelines of the Department of Health and Human Services, and TDA. Site monitors will also be conducting nutrition education coursed for children and their parents at the meal sites. The project activities of the associate assigned to the Communications Department include raising awareness of Food Bank services, volunteer opportunities, events, and fundraising. The Communication Specialist will interface with client to obtain Mission Moment stories, as well as perform administrative tasks within the department. Volunteer Production Associates will assist in providing exemplary customer service to Houston Food Bank volunteers to increase production output for clients. This will include, guiding and directing Houston Food Bank volunteers, staging product, and assisting on the production floor.
