SPEA VISTA Summer Associates
 
 
 
SPEA VISTA Summer Associates will serve a ten-week term of full-time service (June 5 – August 11, 2017). Summer Associates will receive a biweekly living allowance (cumulatively totaling approximately $2,200). At the completion of term of service, Summer Associates may elect to receive either a $1,200 education award or a $250 cash stipend. The SPEA VISTA Summer Associates program is a partnership between the Corporation for National and Community Service and the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA). SPEA works to build a better world by helping people solve complex problems at the crossroads of policy, management, and science. The SPEA VISTA Summer Associates program engages students in an experiential learning activity with Bloomington area nonprofit organizations. Summer Associates will engage in various projects, for example they may: build a volunteer network, develop engagement and outreach projects, take part in education initiatives, conduct program evaluations, and research development opportunities. The Summer Associates program is a great opportunity for anybody interested in improving lives, strengthening the community, and fostering civic engagement in Indiana. Strong candidates will have skills in communications, community organization, leadership, and team work. In accordance with AmeriCorps VISTA program regulations, all applicants must be: (1) a United States citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien of the U.S. and, (2) legally eligible to work in the U.S.

Member Duties : The program is designed to provide an experiential learning opportunity to its participants. The SPEA VISTA Summer Associates program engages members in an experiential learning activity with Bloomington area nonprofit organizations. Partner organizations for 2017 include: Big Brothers Big Sisters, Girls, Inc., Hoosier Hills Food Bank, Integrated Program in the Environment, Mother Hubbard's Cupboard, and United Way. Summer Associates will join organizations in planning and implementing strategies to increase organizational efficacy. For example, Summer Associates may: build a volunteer network, develop engagement and outreach projects, take part in education initiatives, conduct program evaluations, and research development opportunities. Finally, the Summer Associate program will provide capacity building opportunities to organizations in a way that will provide excellent experiences to students interested in working in nonprofit organizations.
