Genesis and Light VISTA Parent Resource Coordinator Year 2
Join us in impacting the lives, livelihood and living condition of Mississippi's most vulnerable community. VISTA members will alleviate poverty by promoting educational resources and boosting funds supporting the new initiative, which will give economically vulnerable students access to technology and social enrichment so that they are academically successful and better prepared for a future beyond poverty. Genesis & Light Center's Educational Assistance Mentoring Project (GLEAM) will develop academic learning centers for families attending low-performing schools to assist students in passing district tests in Hinds and surrounding counties. The 3-to-5-year project will focus on empowering youth by promoting 1) academic excellence, 2) substance-free lifestyles, and 3) an alternative to youth crime. The objective of this project is to promote education, values, positive attitudes, high levels of self-esteem, and strengthen students and their families in such a way to avoid a life of crime and of poverty. The purpose of this project is to decrease and discourage youth involvement in drugs, crimes, violence or other delinquent behaviors.
