Harvest Against Hunger (Summer VISTA Associate) - Seattle

Project Background: Harvest Against Hunger (HAH), a program of Rotary First Harvest, connects local growers, food banks and volunteers to secure fresh produce for distribution to thousands of people throughout Washington State. HAH finds new and innovative ways to decrease waste of fresh fruits and vegetables and increase the availability of nutritious produce for food bank clients. The Summer VISTA Associate program will enhance the existing HAH VISTA project by providing individuals who will work in an intensive level of summer service for 10 weeks alongside the year-round Harvest VISTA members. The SVAs will work to start or support existing food bank, community or school garden projects. Projects will focus on strengthening connections with schools, use educational curriculum and summer feeding programs. Host Site Information: Lettuce Link, a program Solid Ground program, is an innovative food and gardening program that works with a large volunteer network to create a community where all people have access to healthy and culturally appropriate food. Lettuce Link works with and in communities to grow and share food that is fresh and nourishing and is looking for an energetic, dedicated person to deepen our efforts, communication and systems around our Grow a Row project with backyard and community gardeners.
