Summer Reads - Kerkhoven/Murdock/Sunberg, MN
The KMS School District community is made up of students from the communities of Kerkhoven, Murdock and Sunburg. KMS Schools provide education services to students in west central Minnesota. We need three individuals to join our team as we work to teach and support students in their literacy skills. Camp Read A Lot VISTAs will implement literacy activities with individuals and small groups of students. Working with children is our country’s best form of service. Making a difference in the life of a child by teaching and working with children is a gift to the child and a gift to the adult. These positions are part of the Summer Reads program of MN Literacy Council, which provides tutoring and literacy-focused enrichment to children in grades K-3 in schools, libraries and nonprofits across the state through the leadership of AmeriCorps VISTAs. Member Duties : The KMS Camp Read A Lot VISTA members will work with the same group(s) of students throughout the program. The Summer Reads VISTAs support the KMS Literacy goals of preventing the summer literacy skill slide of our students. VISTA staff will be responsible for a group of students like a camp counselor. Based on the experiences or talents of the VISTA, enrichment activities will be developed for the students. VISTAs serve full-time, Monday – Friday. MN Literacy Council in-service trainings provided on select Fridays. Term of service is June 10 – August 4. Pre-Service Orientation takes place on June 10 & 11 (travel paid by MN Literacy Council). *3 positions available. Applications reviewed on rolling basis until filled or through May 20
