Summer Reads - Murdock, MN (LitMN)

Camp Read A Lot is an all-day 8-week summer program developed by the Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (KMS) Public Schools. Camp Read A Lot will be held at KMS Elementary in Murdock, MN. The Camp Read A Lot’s goal is to increase a student’s reading fluency and comprehension skills. The camp has a variety of reading intervention activities including: read to self, timed fluency reading, read to helpers, listening to reading to improve comprehension, writing stories, reading leveled readers and many more. At our camp, we also include large group activities; for example, one year our theme was “Seven Habits of a Happy Child.” Every week we talked about how to incorporate a new habit into our lives and use it every day. Having a theme engaged children, and it helped them meet their reading goals! Multiple positions available. *Positions are part of Literacy Minnesota’s Summer Reads program, which trains and places about 60 AmeriCorps VISTA members as K-5 children’s literacy mentors in schools, libraries and out-of-school-time programs. About half of members serve outside the Twin Cities metro.
