Ohio CDC Association - Assets

Assets Ohio includes all asset building initiatives that derive from the Ohio CDC Association. The major endeavor is a statewide Network Individual Development Account (IDA) Project. IDAs are matched bank accounts for low to moderate income individuals to save for a first time home purchase, postsecondary education, or micro-enterprise. Throughout the saving process, the participant receives financial education, asset specific education, and case management, including credit counseling. Assets Ohio manages a statewide network of IDA sites. We provide federal funds and some nonfederal funds, technical assistance, training, and complete all reporting requirements. Currently, there are 24 sub-sites throughout Ohio that provide IDAs with many more interested in the project. Building Assets for Fathers and Families (BAFF) is another project within Assets Ohio. BAFF is a collaboration between the Ohio CDC Association, Ohio Department of Job and Family Services with the Office of Child Support, and the Ohio Fatherhood Commission, that seeks to provide non-custodial parents that are willing and able to pay child support with tools to move up and out poverty while still fulfilling their financial obligations to their children. This project meets the needs of a usually untouched population. Finally, Assets Ohio wishes to expand its touchpoint by offering more educational IDAs throughout the state, institute children’s savings accounts, further the EITC coalitions to have a state-wide focus rather than a local focus, increase the number of populations we serve, and push for state designated funds for IDAs.
