Common Wealth Inc - SA - Just Add Love

Common Wealth Inc. was founded in 1986 by a diverse group that included religious leaders, trades people, unemployed workers and community activists. The founders shared a concern about the health and welfare of workers in the Mahoning Valley. Using a strategy of regional sustainable economic development, CW has been at the forefront addressing agriculture, healthy food and social capital formation. This has led to the development of the Lake to River Food Hub which includes 4 farmer’s markets, a shared use commercial kitchen, a cooperative made up of producers, institutional and commercial buyers and consumers.

Member Duties : The “Just Add Love” Associate will engage the residents, both children and adults in the neighborhoods around these corner stores in nutrition education programs. The Summer Associate will also be responsible for maintaining the kiosks, doing an inventory of the kinds of items that are being sold, and re-stocking the shelves and cooler and sourcing and assembling the meal kits. Other duties of the Summer Associate will include working with the L2R membership to increase availability of healthy, locally grown products to supply the food kiosks, communicating to members what items are being sold and what products have been identified as desirable through discussion with store managers and informal market surveys. The Summer Associate will work closely with agencies and producers in the urban area to increase their capacity to provide fresh, healthy, locally produced products to offer to residents in the neighborhoods of this urban food desert.
