San Luis Obispo-Volunteer Engagement Fellow, AmeriCorps VIP

The Volunteer Infrastructure Project (VIP) inspires community volunteerism, connecting community members with their neighbors in need. VIP Members are AmeriCorps members who lead “behind the scenes” in existing campus programs and nonprofits (Partner Sites) to build sustainable volunteer programs. Members do this through: 1) building systems to track, support, manage, and train volunteers; 2) recruiting one-time and skills-based volunteers; and 3) raising funds to support the volunteer program. Members spend the majority of their time at their Partner Site collaborating with professional staff to build systems of volunteer management. VIP Members also spend time in the community, building partnerships and connecting community members with service opportunities. VIP Members are a part of a statewide network of 120 Members, and are placed in small teams in their community who meet regularly for collaboration and training. Available partner sites are being finalized and will include positions on Cal Poly campus as well as local non-profit organizations. SERVICE YEAR TIMELINE: March – June: Application is open, interviews, placement of VIP Members July: All Fellows are confirmed for enrollment August: Service Term begins June: Service term ends The VIP Cohort in this region is managed by the Center for Service in Action, Student Affairs, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
