College Health Corps VISTA, University YMCA (MNCC)

The University YMCA seeks to develop its college students through leadership opportunities that aim to empower the next generation of leaders. Each year, a group of students serve on the Advisory Committee to lead the UY community and represent the students to the community at large. Other programs for college students include: UY Ambassadors, Y Collegiate Achievers (CAP), Y Mentors Literacy and Healthy Matters and Physical Healthy Driven (PHD). This AmeriCorps VISTA position will be hosted by the University YMCA, which is located on the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities campus. The VISTA will support and strengthen two initiatives: Y of the Greater Twin Cities Healthy Driven (PHD) program and the University Y Mentors Literacy and Healthy Matters. It is our goal to provide more comprehensive health education to youth and their families by leveraging community partnerships, resources and family involvement. The VISTA will address the health disparities facing low-income youth and families living in urban Minneapolis and Saint Paul. The project aims to increase health knowledge within underserved communities and increase physical activity and improve nutrition in youth and adults.
