AProgram - Martin Luther King VISTA Leader (Seattle)
 
 
 
The Martin Luther King VISTA Corps is a diverse team dedicated to ending poverty in Seattle and King County. MLK VISTA is committed to ending poverty and undoing racism and other oppressions that are the root causes of poverty. We place members with non-profit organizations, where they work in the capacity of developing, implementing and managing new projects for their host agencies. Many of our projects focus in the areas of housing and homelessness, employment, access to technology and family support. In addition, the MLK Corps provides exceptional support for our VISTA members. We focus on leadership development through bi-weekly team meetings and trainings. Trainings include sessions on leadership, diversity, conflict resolution, dependable strengths, and undoing instutionalized The MLK Supervisor and VISTA Leaders provide constant support and guidance to members during their service year. The Martin Luther King VISTA Volunteer Corps Members will focuses resources on building capacity within an organization or program to address the challenges that low-income communities face everyday. We have a commitment to investing in the health and well being of our communities from this perspective: Cultivating and supporting community leadership. Addressing needs related to poverty. Working to prevent homelessness and preserve low-income housing. Providing opportunities for low-income populations to begin to build financial stability through having access to training and information in financial assets, financial education, and financial literacy. Developing programs that improve the cultural competency of community agencies while developing healthy, sustainable relationships with the low-income communities they serve. Member Duties : The MLK VISTA Leader provides leadership, guidance and support for the 30 member VISTA team and the vast network of MLK partner agencies. The VISTA Leader focuses on member support and development, member recruitment and community outreach.
