Member Duties : As an education initiative of the United Way of East Central Iowa, AmeriCorps members serving with the Youth Achievement AmeriCorps program are trained as Elementary Tutors provide literacy support through prescribed literacy interventions. Members work 1:1 or in small group with a primary focus of helping students make gains in reading. Throughout the school year and summer, tutors also provide support to enrichment programming in the Cedar Rapids area. Members benefit from unique opportunities to connect with the community in multiple ways—through volunteerism, community conversations, and trainings.
