CASE AmeriCorps Kids' Day Project-Summer

Harris County Department of Education began the Cooperative for After-School Enrichment division, CASE, in 1999 to increase the number of after-school programs and improve the quality of existing after-school programs. CASE mobilizes the community to work together to ensure that every child in Harris County (greater Houston area) who can benefit from an after-school program has access to one. Mission: We are committed to building partnerships, providing resources, leadership and training that support quality after-school programs in Harris County. AmeriCorps members will support CASE to address the need for quality project-based after-school activities. CASE works with businesses and community organizations to design Kids Day projects that focus on a particular topic, such as robotics, medicine, drama, or photography. For a typical Kids Day project, students receive hands-on lessons through an 8-10 week curriculum aligned with state educational standards for math, science, literacy or art. Students design a product or service based on the particular topic and on Kids Day, the culminating event, students demonstrate the skills learned during after-school activities.
