EDC2014 - Fresno State Community Collaborative Organizer

The San Joaquin Valley Community Reinvestment Act(CRA) Collaborative is a newly forming organization. The intent of the Collaborative is to strengthen the relationship between CRA eligible nonprofits and financial institutions and increase resources for community development in the Valley. In the past year the Collaborative has started to take shape by creating a committed core of official members, forming a Steering Committee and Advisory Committee, constructing the website www.sjvcra.com and beginning to organize the Valley’s very first CRA Resource Exchange event, as well as a CRA training session for local Community Based Organizations. The VISTA assignment will be to maintain this foundation and move this coalition of nonprofits, financial institutions and federal regulators forward. This will involve responding to inquiries, dispersing information, organizing and facilitating meetings of the Steering and Advisory Committee, working with others to develop projects meant to help the Collaborative achieve its goals, event planning, research assignments, creating and updating spreadsheets, maintaining and enhancing the Collaborative’s website, recruiting new members, and other tasks. This assignment is meant for someone that is interested in community development, the nonprofit sector, coalition building and public policy. It isn’t expected for you to know a great deal about the Community Reinvestment Act before you begin, but you should be motivated to learn about it. This assignment requires a lot of independent work however it is also highly rewarding. This assignment will give you experience in skills that will assist your career for many years to come such as administrative experience, public speaking, event planning, facilitation, analytical abilities, coalition building. It will also get you connections with a diverse team of high quality professionals and give you an opportunity to help a highly impoverished region of the United States
