Sterling College
Vermont Campus Compact (VCC) is a statewide coalition of colleges and universities dedicated to the democratic purposes of higher education. We work with eighteen member campuses to infuse civic engagement into their mission, vision, and programming with the goal of better serving the needs of the local, regional, and global community. Our AmeriCorps VISTA program (in collaboration with Campus Compacts in New Hampshire and Maine) focuses on alleviating poverty by increasing college access and success for at-risk students. Our VISTA volunteers will serve on eight different campuses around the state working with youth-serving mentoring and tutoring programs, as well as programs designed to improve the college success of veterans.

Member Duties : The VISTA member at Sterling College will increase the college’s capacity to recruit, serve and support veteran students. Veterans have challenges that are unique to their experience and we believe that we need to provide additional support that addresses these challenges as they access higher education. Our objective is to improve the on-campus resources and services currently available at Sterling and to provide a clear bridge to services found off campus, to ensure that our veterans will have the best possible prospect of accessing higher education, completing an undergraduate degree and securing employment thereafter.
