Rural Action Appalachian Ohio Restore Corps

For more information about our program and to select areas of interest, please visit: https://ruralaction.org/our-work/leadership-and-service/appalachian-ohio-restore-corps/ Interviews and priority consideration begin April 1st. Rural Action is a membership-based non-profit organization promoting social, economic and environmental justice in Appalachian Ohio. Rural Action employs an integrated strategy of economic renewal to build social capacity and civic democracy building on local assets to create long-term solutions for problems. Appalachian Ohio Restore Corps (AORC) was formerly titled Ohio Stream Restore Corps (OSRC), but we changed the name as our program grew to fill more gaps and access more Appalachian Ohio assets. AORC's main outcomes are improved waterways, better managed public and private natural resources, a system of public education around the region's assets and natural history that connects to a ladder of tourism and restoration development opportunities. Members assist in natural resource restoration in the region through activities including: education, volunteer mobilization, and events such as cleanups, watershed and historical tours and building local stewardship toward natural resources. Other activities include environmental training for residents and youth through school-based and community activities such as day camps, library programs, and after-school activities. Program goals also include training local teachers to incorporate outdoor learning into their classrooms; education around waste and recycling issues; and public education to explore economic development opportunities through heritage tourism.
