Frederic Ozanam House

Ozanam House, established in 2009, is permanent, service enriched housing for men over 55 who are very low income, and who meet the federal definition of chronically homeless. This means that they have been homeless continuously for one year, or have been homeless 4 times in 3 years. Those living in the furnished, single room occupancy (SRO) apartments are supported by a number of on-site services including: individual case management, an optional meal program, 24 hour staff, and the assistance of a chemical dependency specialist. There are 56 apartments in one site; 27 of these units are occupied by men who self identify as being assisted by support from a chemical dependency counselor. A minimum of 10 units are occupied by veterans. All residents carry with them the baggage of having been homeless; some are in fragile physical health, some are mentally ill, some struggle with addictions, all are economically disadvantaged, and most have multiple disabling conditions.
