Cornerstone- Salvation Army

The Family Life Center is a 24-week transitional self-sufficiency program operating in a 12,500 square foot facility, providing homeless families with private sleeping and bathing accommodations, food and support services. The typical family served by this program is comprised of a single parent and an average of three children. They come from all ethnic backgrounds and are literally homeless, many times, unemployed and have exhausted virtually all family resources for food and shelter. The Family Life Center shelters 160 individuals per year, including 107 children and 53 adults. We mostly serve the homeless population of the city of Arlington but we accept referrals from any geographic area. The overall goal of the Family Life Center is to return Arlington families to independence with an increased chance of success. Because of the nature of the program, the majority of the families will leave the Family Center with improved self-sufficiency, housing and a decreased chance of needing homeless services again. Our VISTA member will enjoy the opportunity to spend significant amounts of time with program staff and clients as we strengthen our infrastructure by developing a more comprehensive volunteer plan, train staff in the recruitment of volunteers to better serve the mission of the Family Life Center. Have considerable interface with top-level community service providers. This is a great opportunity to embrace your passion for service and volunteerism while also gaining valuable experience within the non-profit community. Pay is $946/month before taxes.
