Jackson Preparatory School -- Saint Paul VISTA Program
 
 
 
Jackson Elementary is a small school located in the Frogtown neighborhood with the school's core belief that "children come first." Jackson serves a diverse student population of Pre-K through 5th grade students with a high percentage of our students qualifying for free and reduced lunch. Our Hmong Dual Language Program is offered to students in Pre-K to 5th grade. Research shows that children in a dual language program who are fluent in their native language develop high academic achievement and become proficient in two languages.The Vista members central goal will be to support Jackson's belief by helping improve and sustain parental engagement and strenghten our family and community outreach. **This VISTA position is sponsored by the Saint Paul VISTA Program. Hosted in Mayor Chris Coleman's Office, the Saint Paul VISTA Program is comprised of a city-wide cohort of individuals -- placed at community organizations and schools -- dedicated to shaping the educational landscape for youth and families in Saint Paul.**

Member Duties : The Jackson Prep VISTA member will: 1) Work closely with the staff, community partners and the Assistant Principal to ensure services are strategically aligned and coordinated; 2) Develop new partnerships and support existing partnerships to help sustain Jackson's mission; 3) Assist Jackson's family resource room and family learning events; 4) Assist in the facilitation of the Parent Academy curriculum, participate in Parent Academy staff meetings, provide support, advocacy and related services to families, and recruit families to participate in the SPPS Parent Academy; 5) Assist in preparing and producing brochures, pamphlets, posters, flyers, letters and other marketing literature; 6) Provide outreach to families; 7) Translate documents as needed; 8) Make calls to families about school events; 9) Recruit and monitor volunteers; 10) Co-chair Jackson’s Action Team for Partnerships, student arrival and dismissal duties and other duties as assigned.
