Big Brothers Big Sisters -- St. Paul VISTA Program
 
 
 
The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported 1-to-1 relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. This VISTA position will be a valued member of the Education & Enrichment team which provides college and career programming for the teens being mentored through BBBS. In its second year, the Workforce Readiness initiative will involve developing and maintaining partnerships with multiple community partners and expanding our current career prepartion and exploration offerings. Youth 12-19 (along with their mentors) will be served through engaging skill-building workshops and events such as on-site job visits and career fairs, summer program referrals and internship/job application and support as they progress toward high school graduation. Professional development opportunities are offered to mentors to enhance their capacity to support their mentees in the area of Workforce Readiness. **This VISTA position is sponsored by the Saint Paul VISTA Program. Hosted in Mayor Chris Coleman's Office, the Saint Paul VISTA Program is comprised of a city-wide cohort of individuals -- placed at community organizations and schools -- dedicated to shaping the educational landscape for youth and families in Saint Paul.**

Member Duties : The BBBS VISTA Member will: 1)Expand the Workforce Readiness program for BBBS teens 12 -19 that offers: early exploration of diverse career fields; connections to current internship or job-related programming, summer/school-year enrichment opportunities; and consideration of apprenticeships and trade/technical/community college programs. 2)Raise the profile of BBBS as a provider of Workforce Readiness programming in order to increase community support (partners and financial), strengthen relationships with local workforce development agencies, increase opportunities for referrals and be recognized as a strong partner in this field. 3)Explore additional program components including but not limited to: Community Service/Service Learning and Job Shadowing that would increase teens' personal and professional development and experiential learning opportunities. 4)Create and implement a Workforce Readiness marketing platform; create sustainable web information and resources.
