Summer Reads - Aitkin, MN (LitMN)

Inspire a child this summer by joining Summer Reads, an AmeriCorps VISTA program of Literacy Minnesota! Aitkin/Rippleside Elementary School has a high population of students who live in poverty with limited access to literacy resources. Summer Reads Mentors will model a love of reading and show the importance of literacy. Mentors will provide fun, literacy-rich activities, exposing children to many different authors and genres of books. The Summer Literacy Program at Rippleside Elementary School in Aitkin will encourage reading throughout the summer to help prevent the “summer slide” of reading skills. Through the Summer Literacy Program, Summer Reads AmeriCorps VISTA members will help students improve their literacy skills and foster a love of learning. *Positions are part of Literacy Minnesota’s Summer Reads program, which trains and places about 70 AmeriCorps VISTA members as K-5 children’s literacy mentors in schools, libraries and out-of-school-time programs. About half of members serve outside the Twin Cities metro.
