Minnesota Literacy Council - VISTA Leader (MLC)

Minnesota Literacy Council shares the power of learning through education, community building and advocacy. We serve individual learners, from preschoolers to retirees. We are also a trusted advisor to others, sharing our expertise and leadership to equip partner organizations, volunteers and professionals to more effectively respond to the literacy needs in their communities. We reach nearly 70,000 people and support approximately 450 community programs each year through these broad and united efforts. As the largest and longest-running sponsor of VISTAs in Minnesota, we manage two statewide AmeriCorps VISTA national service programs: Minnesota Literacy Leadership and Summer Reads. About 20 Literacy Leaders serve full-time for a full year in programs that help improve literacy outcomes for low-income children, youth, adults or families. About 72 Summer Reads members serve full-time for 8 weeks over the summer to provide literacy tutoring and mentoring to low-income children in grades K-4. As a VISTA Leader, you can develop your leadership skills by providing training, support, and creative resources to Literacy Leaders and Summer Reads members. In return, you will receive unique opportunities for personal and professional development, and for building marketable skills in a supportive environment. MUST HAVE: completed at least one year of full-time national Service (AmeriCorps, VISTA, Peace Corps) prior to start. START DATE: flexible if you have recently completed a full year service term as a VISTA. All others start November 12, 2019. ADDITIONAL BENEFITS: individual professional development funds, monthly trainings, free produce shares with a local farm CSA, Employee Assistance Program and more. Applications reviewed on rolling basis until position filled. Minnesota Literacy Council fosters an organizational culture that is welcoming and inclusive to all: https://mnliteracy.org/about/diversity-inclusion.
