Jesuit Volunteer Corps Northwest
PLEASE NOTE: APPLICANTS MUST FILL OUT OUR SPECIFIC JVC NORTHWEST APPLICATION, FOUND AT WWW.JVCNORTHWEST.ORG TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS PROGRAM. SUBMITTING AN AMERICORPS APPLICATION IS NOT REQUIRED. For almost 60 years, Jesuit Volunteers have examined and acted upon the causes of social and ecological injustice to promote peace and structural change. Position Description: Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC) Northwest AmeriCorps Members provide direct service to people living on the margins of society and serve in agencies working for social and ecological justice in the Northwest. Members live in community with other Jesuit Volunteer (JV) AmeriCorps members, learn to live simply and sustainably, and share in reflecting upon their experience through the context of service and community life. JV/AmeriCorps members serve in agencies whose clientele are children, women, and men who often are invisible and live on the margins or our society, including those experiencing abuse, homelessness, poverty, hunger, addictions, heath issues, and disabilities. They also serve in positions working for environmental concerns and ecological sustainability. Members experience the rugged beauty of the Northwest region while living and serving in urban centers, rural communities as well as in Native American and Alaskan Native communities. Our organization, including members, staff, and board, strive to live out the four values of our mission: community, simple living, social and ecological justice, and spirituality/reflection. JVC Northwest is currently reapplying for an additional three years of funding to begin in the 2016-17 service year. Future funding is conditional upon government appropriations and a successful grant award.
