Cocoon House U-Turn Drop-In Center

The mission of Cocoon House is to foster personal growth and healthy relationships to strengthen and empower at-risk and homeless youth and their families. The youth we serve through U-Turn are primarily street dependent youth (youth who get their support needs met from the street), and can be gang involved, homeless, mentally delayed, participate in survival sex, chemically dependent, and youth at-risk of all of the above. The majority of these youth come from a background of abuse, neglect, poor education, and poverty. U-Turn is a safe, street level drop-in resource center; serving youth ages 13-20 with urgent needs such as food, socks, hygiene products, and community referrals. At the center we offer mentoring, showers, washer/dryers, computer access, and hot meals. U-Turn offers opportunities for youth to participate in pro-social activities, support groups, education sessions, case management and much more. The key to connecting with our street dependent youth is based on building a relationship of trust, respect, and empathy. U-Turns success in working with this population comes from our staffs ability to build a relationship restoring hope and trust to youth who are disconnected. In the upcoming year we are focusing in on building our volunteer base, and building on multiple aspects of program development.
