Denver Public Schools - Urban Education Service (Full-Time)
 
 
 
This is a 10-month program from September 1st, 2015 to June 30th, 2016. Members will receive a monthly stipend of $1,800($18,000 total), as well as an education award of $5,730 upon completion of 1,700 hours of service. As a Denver Public Schools AmeriCorps Student Engagement Advocate, you will work collaboratively to service students and families in targeted select schools and neighborhood communities. Members will have opportunities to align their passion and creativity with the needs of the school and community to create and implement service projects. Examples of past projects include: implementing an after-school hip-hop class, organizing a school talent show, structuring recess programs, establishing a Parent-Action Committee and coordinating a ski/ snowboard trip for students. Members will also work in conjunction with the school’s Community Engagement Specialist (CES) and attendance liaison to identify and manage a rotating caseload of 18 – 24 students with attendance concerns in their school site and work to improve those students' attendance; provide on-site and in-the-field training and enrollment into the Parent Portal, the district tool to provide parents with attendance, grade and school information; inform parents of school partnerships and available resources in the surrounding school communities such as support from local business merchants, faith based organizations, non-profits and youth service agencies that serve the school; and utilize program technology including laptop computers, blogging, video cameras, audio and video editing software to create and document your experience through video - all equipment supplied by AmeriCorps. Members participate in ongoing training and professional development relevant to their service. These sessions will benefit future career opportunities in education, non-profit, and social work fields.

Member Duties : Design and implement school service projects. Work in conjunction with the school’s Community Engagement Specialist (CES) to identify and manage a rotating caseload of 18 – 24 students with attendance concerns in their school site. Maintain a directory of community resources and facilitate ease of access to information/programs/services for student/families; track referrals in Infinite Campus (IC) and Program Database. Conduct on-site and in-the-field training sessions to teach parents how to access and utilize Infinite Campus; track the number of parents trained in IC and Program Database. Inform parents of school partnerships and available resources in the surrounding school communities such as support from local business merchants, faith based organizations, non-profits and youth service agencies that serve the school. Participate in professional development opportunities and attend training sessions.
