AmeriCorps Florida State Parks
 
 
 
The AmeriCorps Florida State Parks program is administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and operates in Florida's 160 state parks and their surrounding communities. In cooperation with park staff, local organizations and schools, AmeriCorps Florida State Parks members provide service in the areas of habitat restoration, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance, prescribed burning, trail maintenance, cultural and historical restoration, environmental education and volunteer recruitment. Mission of AmeriCorps Florida State Parks To serve and strengthen Florida State Parks' natural and cultural resources by addressing critical environmental and human needs. The Florida Park Service includes 160 state archaeological and historic sites, gardens, parks and recreation areas. The Florida Park Service originated in 1935 when the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) helped to develop the first eight state parks. AmeriCorps Florida State Parks continues this legacy by restoring and improving park resources while revitalizing the ethic of service to the community and the nation.

Member Duties : Members have opportunities to assist in many different ways for the Florida Park Service. They establish and maintain public trails, removing exotic and invasive plants while reestablishing native plants and habitats. Members are trained to participate in prescribed burns and wildfires. Also, members participate in surveying some of Florida most endangered and threatened wildlife for biologist across the state. Members develop environmental programs to educate visitors about the parks and local areas. They will also work in the local community to recruit and manage volunteers.
