City of Redmond Teen Programs

The mission of teen program for the City of Redmond is to offer innovative and supportive programs to all teens in Redmond that encourage community building, leadership, and empowerment. We serve youth in junior high and high school that live or go to school in Redmond. Some highlights of the program for AmeriCorps members are: program development and implementation, opportunities to work with at-risk youth, creating and supporting youth leadership skills, working and learning with a team of professionals that have many years of experience, being a part of a creative team, and developing opportunities with youth. The program will provide members learning opportunities that they can use to grow in this field. They will use proven strategies to assess programs to determine quality. Members will have opportunities to work with youth in developing and implementing programs that they create. There may be opportunities to develop new programs as needs or issues come up. An example of this was this past term we received a grant to run a girls group through the Women in Sports Foundation called Go! Girl Go!, members organized, ran, and evaluated the program at the end. Bi-lingual members will be able to use their language skills to help and support youth and families with English as their second language. The AmeriCorps position is designed to give Members experience in working in a multi program setting. This position will focus on: the Redmond Youth Partnership Advisory Committee (RYPAC), the After Hours Program (Junior High After School Program), the Student Enrichment Program, Go Girl Go, and Teen Job Shadow Internship. There will be other opportunities to work with other programs or collaborators that support our program. The position will be dynamic and allow members the ability to be innovative and independent within the programs working parameters.
