Louisiana Bucket Brigade - Research Analyst
 
 
 
Are you an agent of change? If so, the Louisiana Bucket Brigade wants you! The Louisiana Bucket Brigade, founded in 2000 is an environmental health and justice organization whose mission is to support communities use of grassroots action to create sustainable neighborhoods free from industrial pollutionWe are looking for a Research Associate to complete and present research on refinery accidents at 17 refineries in Louisiana as a part of the Refinery Efficiency Initiative. Activities Include: Compile and analyze data on refinery accidents from reports submitted by the industry to the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. - Analyze data according to established blueprint that includes, causal factor analysis, pollutant totals and cases of concern. Prepare and present reports on research results. - Prepare and present presentations, hard copy reports and fact sheets for affected community groups. - Assist with preparation of the report for the Refinery Efficiency Initiative. - Assist with organizing press conferences upon release of the final report. - Assist in engaging refining industry in dialogue on pollution prevention. Ensure sustainability/continuation of research to enter 2009 and future data. - Conduct outreach to schools of public health and environmental law to create an ongoing team of researchers for the project. - Develop systems that ensures quality work to continue this research using student / volunteer researchers. Qualifications and Experience: - Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills - Experience designing and conducting research in environmental science, public health or related field - Good analytical skills - Strong attention to detail, meticulous worker - Experience working with media a plus - Experience working with Geographic Information Systems preferred
