VHCB AmeriCorps - Environmental Educ./Resource Spec. (WVPD)
 
 
 
The Winooski Valley Park District (WVPD) is seeking an AmeriCorps Member to fill a service opportunity based in Burlington, VT. The member will help in serving 18 natural areas and the communities of the WVPD's seven member towns. The member will be part of a team working on multiple environmental education initiatives, including a summer day camp, classroom education programs, afterschool programs, field trips, service learning projects and conservation initiatives. The WVPD is seeking an energetic, motivated individual who ideally has worked with youth and has a background in environmental science, education, biology, natural resources or similar fields. Service Conditions: • Combination of indoor work, in an open office and classroom setting, and outdoor work, in all weather conditions; • Varied, but flexible, schedule that includes some evenings, weekends, and long days; • Travel to WVPD parks, schools and meetings/trainings. Position begins September 11th, 2017 and ends August 10th, 2018. This position is Full Time: Requires 1,700 hours and serves approximately 40 hours per week for 11 months. Member will receive a living allowance of $17,850 (pre-tax), and an education award of $5,815 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service. Member Duties : • Develop and enhance, coordinate and provide environmental education programming, field trips and service learning projects for schools and youth groups in the WVPD’s member towns; • Strengthen existing and establish new relationships with schools and teachers, youth group leaders and community partners; • Assist in planning and leading both annual and monthly community events such as Conservation Field Day, Green Up Day, nature walks at WVPD parks, information sessions, volunteer days, citizen science and environmental stewardship initiatives; • Create educational displays for information boards and news releases for local papers; • Recruit & lead volunteers to remove non-native invasive plants and other park maintenance related projects; For full position description please visit: http://www.vhcb.org/americorps/menu_events/positions/
