VHCB AmeriCorps - Community Energy/Climate Action Cor (VNRC)
The Vermont Natural Resources Council is an independent, nonprofit (501.c.3) environmental education, research and advocacy organization founded in 1963. VNRC’s mission is to advance programs and practices that support and strengthen the foundation upon which Vermont’s economy thrives — our environment. VNRC has four program areas — Water, Forests and Biodiversity, Sustainable Communities and Energy and Climate Action. VNRC is also the coordinator of the Vermont Energy and Climate Action Network (VECAN), which is an umbrella network of partner organizations and over 100 all-volunteer community energy committees in Vermont. The primary goal of this position is to build the capacity of energy committees and support their education, communication and implementation efforts around weatherization, efficiency, conservation, renewable energy projects, transportation choices and more. This position is to be performed primarily indoors in an office setting. It will also include staffing (and helping organize) events, participating in meetings and public engagement opportunities etc. The hours are occasionally irregular, with night meetings or weekend events. Primarily, however, the position is M-F, with work occurring during more traditional office hours. Position begins September 11th, 2017 and ends August 10th, 2018. This position is Full Time: Requires 1,700 hours and serves approximately 40 hours per week for 11 months. Member will receive a living allowance of $17,850 (pre-tax), and an education award of $5,815 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service. Member Duties : Essential Functions: - Capacity building support to Vermont's existing town energy committees. - Help to start new energy committees in Vermont communities currently without one. - Organize regional energy network gatherings and other information-sharing and networking opportunities. - Helping to organize and promote the fifth annual Button Up Vermont initiative. - Helping VECAN partners and UVM Extension organize and host our 10th Annual Community Energy and Climate Action Conference.
