EDC Central California Legal Services, Inc.

Justice is rationed everyday for those who do not have access to an attorney. Justice is especially scarce for the poor. At Central California Legal Services, Inc. (CCLS) we work to reverse that and towards the day that the aspiration of “Justice for All” becomes reality. The mission of CCLS is to “Advance Justice and Empower People". We provide free civil legal services to the residents of Fresno, Kings, Merced, Mariposa, Tulare and Tuolumne Counties. A small grant enables us to provide much more limited services to seniors in Madera County. Through the combined efforts of our clients, staff and board members, volunteers and collaborating partners we work to make Central California a stronger and better region. Our clients are the working poor, victims of domestic violence and elder abuse, consumers denied access to health care, parents and students, senior citizens, immigrants and refugees, families facing homelessness, the newly unemployed, workers cheated out of their wages and others suffering from “the daily…small…cumulative injuries of little people.” CCLS has long promoted the Earned Income Tax Credit program (EITC). CCLS was the first area agency to encourage eligible residents to apply for the EITC, which is the best means to lift individuals and families out of poverty. This VISTA will assist CCLS to continue to help our clients to claim EITC money thereby assisting them out of poverty.
