Harvest Against Hunger - Seattle (City Fruit)

This AmeriCorps VISTA will build a more robust and sustainable outreach program by expanding City Fruit’s ability to harvest unused fruit in the Seattle community and channel it to organizations serving those in need. This is the third and final year of this VISTA partnership and will focus on three main objectives: Further strengthen City Fruit's volunteer base; Develop a series of fruit tree care classes and expand partnerships within the community: https://cityfruit.org/ As a project of Rotary First Harvest (RFH), the Harvest Against Hunger gleaning program creates a way to enlist small to medium-sized farms to partner and connect with hunger relief efforts in local communities throughout Washington. For 30+ years, RFH has focused on connecting and collaborating between different groups (farmers, truckers, food banks and volunteers) to gather food that would otherwise go to waste. Harvest Against Hunger has been named “one of the most effective AmeriCorps programs in the nation” – and with good reason. HAH is a collaborative program that places AmeriCorps*VISTA members (known as Harvest VISTA) in communities around Washington to develop gleaning and produce recovery programs to support local hunger relief groups: http://firstharvest.org/harvest-against-hunger/
