PPP AmeriCorps Program
 
 
 
The Pima Prevention Partnership PPP AmeriCorps program will improve the public safety and employability of people who live, work, or go to school in the 85705 zip code. This area, which has significant documented problems with crime, substance abuse, and unemployment is the site of the Pima Partnership High School (PPHS) and Pima Partnership Academy (PPA). These programs which have existing local relationships with neighborhood groups, law enforcement, and the local community college. PPP AmeriCorps members, will work on 1.) increasing the number of high school students who have completed their grade-specific E-CAP; 2.) increasing the number of middle school students who score at grade level for 8th grade math; 3.) increasing the number of youth at the four school sites and the PCTC who have opioid use prevention knowledge and have identified a plan to avoid initiating opioid use.

Member Duties : The AmeriCorps members will leverage a 175 adult volunteers who will engage in one or more of the following: mentoring; career and college exploration events; college financial aid support activities; "Have a Laugh with Math events"; and Teen Court Saturday events. Volunteers will be recruited and engaged by targeted phone and email contact, flyers, website posts, and face-to-face contacts for specific volunteer opportunities. Volunteers are also generated as a result of on-going collaborations with community groups and organizations. Volunteers serve primarily as activity helpers, trainers and professional liaisons with our service populations. AmeriCorps members will work with the STEM program and mentoring Program at Pima Partnership High School and Pima Partnership Academy.
