Community Wellness Educator
 
 
 
***This position is in Arrington, VA located in Nelson County, not Arlington, VA*** The Community Wellness Educator (CWE) provides support and outreach for the senior population of the Blue Ridge Medical Center (BRMC) service area. This role primarily serves with the Rockfish Enrichment Club providing respite to caregivers and social care for those with dementia. Additionally, the CWE serves with the Nelson County Jefferson Board of Aging (JABA) and the Gladstone Senior Center. CWEs develop deliverables, activities, and lessons for the senior groups on health topics identified as a priority for this population. CWEs gain valuable experience in inter-professional collaboration, as well as insight into the needs and resources essential to the health of an aging-population. This position will provide valuable support to enhance the quality of life for those aging in place.

Member Duties : 1. Travel to Rockfish Enrichment Club, JABA, and Gladstone Senior Center regularly to conduct outreach and health education 2. Review community data such as UDS reports, community needs assessments, local data to identify key needs of the senior population in the BRMC service area 3. Based upon identified needs, develop a presentation for the priority population in collaboration with the partnering organizations 4. Participate in monthly food pack events and food distribution days with the Nelson County food pantry 5. Develop and implement lesson plans, deliverables, and activities for the partnering organizations 6. Develop tailored resource guides for the aging population and maintain working knowledge of relevant community resources 7. Participate in relevant trainings including but not limited to: CPR, fall risks, Medicare applications, and disease specific training 8. Assist with planning annual BRMC Health Fair
