IIMN - Distance Learning Connector (LitMN)
 
 
 
The International Institute of Minnesota (IIMN) provides services and resources to empower New Americans (immigrants and refugees) in the pursuit of their goals. From language learning and job training to immigration assistance, citizenship classes, refugee resettlement, and case management, the Institute offers New Americans a pathway for a strong start to a new life in our community. The education and workforce programs and the Institute currently serve students from 88 different countries speaking 61 distinct languages. While the Institute places an emphasis on serving refugees, the education and workforce programs are open to all adult English learners with a high percentage of immigrants and U.S. citizens. As a member of the Education Department, the Distance Learning Connector will have opportunities to creatively problem solve with staff to impact programs, connect with refugees and immigrants, and make a meaningful impact on the lives of hundreds through coordinating educational resources, workshops, and trainings, and further personal professional development goals through professional development. Skills in languages used by clients (Spanish, Oromo, Somali, French & Arabic) is preferred.

Member Duties : The Distance Learning Connector at the International Institute of Minnesota will work to bridge the gap in service and skill for refugees and immigrants through education resource development and training. The goals of the position are to 1. Continue implementation of a cohesive distance learning plan and develop “Learning English at Home” workshops; 2. Coordinate development and distribution of supplemental teaching materials to students; 3. Organize trainings groups; 4. Strengthen connections within the organization. *Position is part of the Literacy Leadership AmeriCorps VISTA program of Literacy Minnesota (LitMN). Literacy Minnesota fosters an organizational culture that is welcoming and inclusive to all. Applications reviewed on rolling basis until filled. Alternate start dates may be available.
