23-24 El Centro de la Raza Si Se Puede Program Assistant

This is an AmeriCorps national service position. It is contingent on funding and open until filled. As an organization grounded in the Latino community of Washington State, it is the mission of El Centro de la Raza (The Center for People of All Races) to build the Beloved Community through unifying all racial and economic sectors; to organize, empower, and defend the basic human rights of our most vulnerable and marginalized populations; and to bring critical consciousness, justice, dignity, and equity to all the peoples of the world. Our Youth Service Programs follow students through their entire educational journey. Beginning in elementary school, we offer case management to children and their caregivers providing socio-emotional development through a culturally relevant lens. We provide afterschool programming through an applied ethnic studies curriculum that supports identity development, community advocacy, and critical consciousness. Scholars then find us at their high school offering ethnic studies curriculum in partnership with teachers. As scholars transition to adulthood, we offer a number of GED, workforce connections and career counseling services to ensure our youth are able to build pathways towards meaningful lives. This position is an opportunity to learn about nonprofit programs in the context of community empowerment and development.
