Central MN United Way - Black Literacy Program (LitMN)

United Way of Central Minnesota - Partner for Student Success works with partners across the community to support students. This project will focus on building sustainability into a literacy program developed in the first two years of this project with a specific focus on Black cultural identity development. The Literacy Leader will fine-tune a program that fosters and supports cultural identity development of youth while simultaneously develops literacy skills. The position presents the opportunity to work with community-led organizations, school district staff, and other literacy and cultural organizations across the state as the Literacy Leader supports personalization and sustainability in what was built with previous AmeriCorps VISTA leads. The Literacy Leader will gain skills including communication, teamwork, problem solving, implementation and leadership opportunities working with diverse populations. We are a STRIVE organization with a mission to unite Greater St. Cloud in the collective pursuit of student success. Our aim is to increase opportunities so children and youth in our area achieve academically, possess strong social-emotional skills, engage in the community, and are ready for post-secondary/career training and experiences. We work with school districts and 50+ other organizations (businesses, education, community agencies, funders and government) in the greater St. Cloud Area. The Partnership serves approximately 17,615 students PreK-12 in a tri-county area. Beyond our work in education, United Way also supports mental health and financial stability.
