Summer Reads – Barnum Community Education (LitMN)
 
 
 
Barnum Community Education is located within our school. We offer programming from birth to senior citizens! Our Summer Reads Mentors will be working closely with Bomber Club, our school-age care program and the community by offering 1-1 or small group tutoring sessions and offering a reading program for kindergarten through 6th graders. This position is PERFECT for aspiring teachers. You will work closely with our awesome staff to gain experience teaching, planning, prepping, and implementing a state-of-the-art reading program to our youth. *Positions are part of Literacy Minnesota’s Summer Reads program, which trains and places more than 40 AmeriCorps VISTA members as literacy mentors for children (primarily K-5) in schools, libraries and out-of-school-time programs statewide. About half of members serve outside the Twin Cities metro.

Member Duties : We are looking for 2-3 AmeriCorps VISTA members. Specific duties will be tutoring 1-1 or in small groups on reading, writing, and/or math. Members will also be implementing and planning for Summer Reads, a program where they do a variety of lessons, activities, games, and non-stop fun for our kindergarten to 6th-grade students to promote a love of reading. Be prepared for community events, nature storybook walks, field trips, playground time, and never-ending hugs and giggles. Members serve full-time, approximately 40 hours per week, primarily Mon - Fri. Literacy Minnesota provides member trainings on most Fridays. Term of service is June 20–August 14. Orientation takes place June 20-21. Multiple positions available. Literacy Minnesota fosters an organizational culture that is welcoming and inclusive to all.
