BGCCV Program Development & Recruitment VISTA (Year 1)

Boys & Girls Club of the Concho Valley’s (BGCCV) vision is to be the leader among youth service organizations as evidenced by: Reduction of juvenile crime, educational success, serving more youth, providing programs that help decrease teen pregnancy and development of skills necessary for future employment. Since 1965, BGCCV continues to offer access to a broad range of programs. Club members benefit from trained, caring, professional staff and volunteers who help members take control of their lives, envision productive futures, and achieve their goals. Our two locations (Units) are strategically embedded in two of San Angelo’s highest under-resourced neighborhoods. 37% of families within these neighborhoods fall below poverty level and 78 to 90 percent are of a minority race. The Units are embedded in these neighborhoods for what we believe will have the greatest impact. We offer youth access to: a safe environment, academic support, high-quality programs, meals and snacks, and supportive relationships - all are key ingredients that kids and teens need to reach their full potential. Offering these vital resources, within their neighborhoods, is critical to building a community where every person can achieve his or her highest potential, unhampered by barriers and social inequality. The BGCCV Program Development and Recruitment VISTA will help ensure children ages 6 to 18, from some of San Angelo’s highest under-resourced neighborhoods, receive the educational, social, and emotional support they need to break the cycle of poverty. The project will build capacity of the Boys & Girls Club of the Concho Valley through program development focused on community awareness and outreach, data collection and analysis, and volunteer coordination. The VISTA at BGCCV will be located in San Angelo, Texas.
